A Specialist Dedicated to the Science of Voice, Airway and Swallowing
A Journey Built on Specialisation
Training began at Kilpauk Medical College, followed by MS (ENT) at Madras Medical College. Then came the DNB (ENT) Gold Medal from the National Board of Examinations, and MRCS (ENT) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Specialist training in laryngology followed under Dr. Jayakumar Menon, culminating in a Fellowship in Laryngology. Doctor Vox Therapy certification came next, in Turkey and Poland, under Dr. Ilter Denizoglu (who invented the device), and then the European Board Fellowship in Phoniatrics (FEBP).
Observerships and advanced training with eminent laryngologists across Europe and the UK shaped a clear philosophy: combine international expertise, evidence-based medicine and new technology, and make that care accessible in India.
Beyond the Clinic
The work extends well beyond clinical practice into research, academic medicine, teaching and innovation, as faculty and invited speaker at national and international conferences, and as lecturer, panellist, chairperson, hands-on demonstrator and operating faculty at live surgical conferences.
Awards include the Dr. Gananathan Govindaswami AOI Research Paper Award, for research into the pterygopalatine fossa as a reservoir for mucormycosis, and the Rising Star Award, for work on coblator-assisted endotamponade for spasmodic dysphonia, alongside wins in the Prem Kakkar General ENT Quiz and the Rhinology Quiz at the Asia Oceania ORL-HNS Congress 2019.
The VASCON Voice Marathon 2025 and VASCON 2026 – Advanced Voice & Swallowing Conference were both conceptualised and organised here, bringing specialists together from across the country. Continuing a mentor’s legacy, a dedicated Fellowship in Laryngology now offers structured advanced training in voice, airway, swallowing and professional voice.
Areas of Special Interest
A particular interest lies in complex swallowing and airway disorders: patients with significant swallowing difficulty, and those living with tracheostomies who face challenges with decannulation. Detailed assessment of the larynx is paired with innovative procedures and individualised rehabilitation, particularly for patients who have not responded to conventional pathways.
For professional voice users, the work goes beyond repairing an injured voice. Singers, performers, actors, teachers and speakers are supported on optimisation, conditioning and performance, helping them understand their voice and use it with greater efficiency and sustainability.
The practice brings together surgical expertise, phoniatric medicine and advanced voice care, from sophisticated diagnostic evaluation and behavioural voice therapy to complex laryngology surgery.

- Organised VASCON – Voice Marathon 2025, a 1.5-day exclusive voice event that brought together over 25 faculty members. The programme featured a hands-on laryngeal workshop on Day 1 and a marathon of expert lectures on Day 2, making it one of the most dynamic and focused laryngology gatherings in the region.
- Currently practising at Shri VAS Clinic & Voice Gym, Anna Nagar West Extn., Chennai, and visiting consultant at Apollo Hospitals, SIMS, Mehta’s, GEM Hospital, Prashanth Hospitals, Vijaya Hospitals and KKR Institute of ENT.
- Early research on the Pterygopalatine fossa and its association with mucormycosis, conducted well before the COVID-19 pandemic, gained national attention and earned Dr. Gananathan Govindasamy AOI Research Paper Award at the 19th Asia-Oceania ORL HNS Congress. The work was later widely referenced during the mucormycosis epidemic.

- A parallel journey in music includes the Trinity College London Grade 4 Keyboard exams, building discipline, performance skills and a deeper appreciation for music.
- Outside medicine: Woman International Master in Chess, five-time national champion, Commonwealth U14 silver medallist, and co-founder of GM Vishnu’s Chess Club, a blend of precision, discipline and creativity that carries into clinical and academic life.
