Dr. Raghavi Vishnu Prasanna

A Journey Built on Specialisation

Dr. Raghavi began her medical training at Kilpauk Medical College, followed by her MS (ENT) from Madras Medical College. She went on to secure the DNB (ENT) Gold Medal from the National Board of Examinations and completed her MRCS (ENT) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Her specialist training in laryngology began under Dr. Jayakumar Menon, the pioneer and Father of Indian Laryngology, with whom she completed her Fellowship in Laryngology. She is a Doctor Vox Therapy Specialist, trained in Turkey and Poland under Dr. Ilter Denizoglu, the inventor and pioneer of the Doctor Vox Device. Determined to bring the best of global phoniatric and professional voice care to India, she subsequently pursued advanced training across Europe and the United Kingdom. She completed the European Board Fellowship in Phoniatrics (FEBP).

Her pursuit of specialised expertise has taken her across Europe and the UK, where she has undertaken observerships and advanced training with several eminent laryngologists. These experiences have shaped her philosophy of combining international expertise, evidence-based medicine, cutting-edge technology and innovative treatment approaches, while making advanced laryngology care accessible to patients and professionals in India.

Beyond the Clinic

Dr. Raghavi's work extends well beyond clinical practice, encompassing research, academic medicine, teaching, innovation and professional education.

She has been a faculty member and invited speaker at national and international conferences, contributing as a lecturer, panellist, chairperson, hands-on demonstrator, skilled assistant and operating faculty at live surgical conferences.

Her academic contributions have been recognised with several prestigious awards and distinctions. She received the Dr. Gananathan Govindaswami AOI Research Paper Award for her research investigating the pterygopalatine fossa as a reservoir for mucormycosis, contributing to a better understanding of the disease and its pathways of spread.

She was also honoured with the Rising Star Award for her work on coblator-assisted endotamponade for spasmodic dysphonia. Her clinical and academic aptitude has been further recognised through competitive platforms, including winning the Prem Kakkar General ENT Quiz and the Rhinology Quiz at the Asia Oceania ORL-HNS Congress 2019.

A strong believer in advancing specialised education, Dr. Raghavi has also conceptualised and organised major academic initiatives, including the VASCON Voice Marathon 2025 and VASCON 2026 – Advanced Voice & Swallowing Conference. These initiatives brought together specialists from across the country and created platforms for meaningful exchange in the evolving fields of voice, airway and swallowing.

Continuing the legacy of her mentor and her commitment to nurturing the next generation of specialists, Dr. Raghavi has established her own Fellowship in Laryngology, offering structured advanced training in the specialised fields of voice, airway, swallowing and professional voice.

Areas of Special Interest

Dr. Raghavi has a special interest in complex swallowing and airway disorders. She works with patients experiencing significant swallowing difficulties, as well as those living with tracheostomies and facing challenges with decannulation. Her practice brings together detailed assessment of the larynx – airway and swallowing mechanism – with innovative procedures and individualised rehabilitation strategies. She has been at the forefront of exploring newer approaches to swallowing care, particularly for patients with limited options or those who have not responded to conventional pathways.

When it comes to professional voice users, her approach also goes beyond addressing an injured or struggling voice. She works with singers, performers, actors, teachers, speakers, presenters and other individuals for whom the voice is central to both profession and self-expression. Her novel approach aids them to embrace voice optimisation, conditioning, habilitation and performance — helping individuals understand their voice, develop its potential and use it with greater efficiency and sustainability.

Thus, her practice brings together surgical expertise, phoniatric medicine and advanced voice care, allowing patients to access world class comprehensive specialist management — from sophisticated diagnostic evaluation and behavioural voice therapy to complex laryngology surgery.
